Ingredient Notes:

Chicken: Take at least 2 lbs of chicken wings to make an ample serving of this recipe. Prefer chicken with skin because it makes the crispiest exterior when cooked. Wash and clean thoroughly with a solution of vinegar and water before using.

Spices: In my recipe, I have used only minimum spices, like sea salt, black pepper, and lemon pepper seasonings. But if you prefer your wings spicy, you can use cayenne pepper or red chili powder. Aside from garlic powder, you can also add onion powder and chicken powder for added flavor. Similarly, in flour seasoning, you can add dried oregano, dried parsley, thyme, and other powdered herbs to give it a natural flavor.

Honey: Honey makes the base of this super addictive meal. Honey imparts a little sweetness without adding to the caloric count. It blends well with the flavor of lemon juice, salt, and pepper to make the best sauce to coat the wings.

Lemon Juice: In all my recipes, I always use only fresh lemon juice squeezed from fresh lemons. Store-bought lemon juice never fancies me, and honestly, it does not build up the desired taste.

Tips to make the best Honey Lemon Pepper Wings

  • Make sure that you measure the ingredients of the sauce properly. If you add more honey and less lemon juice, the sauce may end up too thick and will not have the desired tangy flavor.
  • To make it a bit more flavorful, chop one clove of garlic and saute it in butter before adding honey. This will make the sauce even more flavorful.
  • Use freshly ground black pepper because it is more powerful in its taste.
  • Be careful while handling the hot honey sauce. If it lands on the skin it might cause burns.
  • Pat dry the chicken wings. This will remove their excess moisture and make them crispy.
  • Use thongs to handle the chicken wings if you are using the oven. This will prevent the incidents of burning.

Storage Instructions

  • If you have any leftovers of these honey-glazed wings, put them in an air-tight container and refrigerate. They will stay good for as long as 3 to 5 days, however, they may lose their outer crispiness.
  • Reheat the refrigerated wings in a microwave for a few seconds. You can also reheat them by placing them in a greased baking dish and heating them in the oven at 390°F for 2 to 4 minutes.
  • If you want to freeze them, do so without frying them. Marinate the wings, coat them in flour, and then place them in an air-tight box and freeze them. They can last for 2 months. This makes it the best make-and-freeze meal.
  • When you want to serve, fry, air fry, or bake the wings as per your liking prepare fresh sauce and serve immediately.

Which sides go best with Honey Lemon Pepper wings?

Honey Lemon Pepper wings are a meal on their own, but you can serve them with a variety of sides. Here are some:

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the best cooking method for wings?

Most professional chefs recommend that the most perfect method to make chicken wings is to marinate them with desired seasonings. Then, you need to steam them before frying, baking, or air frying them. With this method, the flavors get more concentrated and infused into the chicken. The steam renders all the fat beneath the skin of the chicken, making the exterior extra crispy.

Is it better to sauce wings before or after baking?

Tossing up chicken wings in the sauce before baking is not practical because the sauce in the honey might burn, and will not coat the chicken s desired. It is better to bake the chicken wings so that the outer layer becomes crispy and gets ready to take up the moisture from the sauce, glazing up perfectly. Glaze with the sauce just before serving to keep the skin crispier for a long time.

Can I toss wings in cornstarch?

Yes! If you do not have all-purpose flour, you can always use rice flour or cornstarch to make your wings crispier. Season the cornstarch with salt and pepper and lightly coat the chicken in it. However, with any kind of flour or cornstarch, the recipe will not remain Gluten-free.
