Ingredient Notes and Variations

Apples and fresh cranberries: Choose quality apples to make this delightful and achieve balanced flavors. If you don’t have fresh cranberries, use dried ones, but soak them in warm water before using them.

Raw sugar: It adds an excellent depth of flavor. You can use granulated or brown sugar instead of raw sugar.

Lemon juice: Fresh lemon juice adds refreshing citrusy notes to the turnovers. Use lime juice as an alternative.

Cornstarch: It helps to thicken the fruity filling. You can use all-purpose flour or tapioca starch as an alternative.

Cinnamon: It is optional, but adding cinnamon to the filling brings aroma and warm flavors to the treats. You can use nutmeg instead of cinnamon.

Puff pastry sheet: Puff pastry is readily available in stores. However you can also make it at home from scratch, but it requires time and effort.
