Ingredient Notes and Variations

Chicken wings: If you are buying whole chicken wings, wash and clean them thoroughly. Separate them from joints and use the wingettes and drummetes for this recipe. Remove the tips from the wings too. These can be used to make chicken stock.

Barbecue Sauce: The Barbecue Sauce is the star of this recipe as it gives a classic smoky flavor to the wings.

Olive oil: Olive oil gives a crisp exterior to the wings. Alternatively, you can use avocado, sesame, or any other light vegetable oil.

Baking powder: Although it is an optional ingredient, baking powder forms a crusty coating on the wings and takes in any excess moisture.

Spices: For my classic Air fryer wings, I coat them with a blend of different spices. These include Paprika powder, Garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. For a more spicier taste, try using green chili paste or red chili flakes.

Dried onion: Dried onion has a unique sweet plus savory flavor which blends with all the spices to create an amazing overall taste.

How to make Air Fryer B.B.Q chicken wings

1: Marinating the wings

marinating BBQ Wings

Wash and pat dry the chicken wings with a kitchen towel to remove moisture.

In a mixing bowl add the chicken wings along with olive oil and baking powder.

Add paprika powder, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Add any other optional spices too. Mix well so that the wings are thoroughly coated.

2: Air frying the wings

Preheat the air fryer to 400°F.

Arrange the chicken wings in a lined air fryer basket. Arrange so that no piece overlaps each other.

Cook for at least 25 minutes. Flip sides in between to ensure the sides are brown and crisp from both sides.

If you are doubtful, use a kitchen thermometer to check the internal temperature of the chicken wings. It should be 165°F.

Remove from the air fryer basket.

3: Glazing

Coat the prepared chicken wings in barbecue sauce.

If you like, place them again in the air fryer and heat for 2 to 3 minutes so that the sauce heats up and forms a luscious glaze.

Serve with a side of potato wedges, ranch sauce, or vegetable salad.
